Explanation of treatment
Mini Gastric Bypass (gastric bypass)
The Mini Gastric Bypass is a somewhat newer version of a classic Gastric Bypass. This gastric bypass is also called a One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB = gastric bypass with one connection. The stomach reservoir in a Mini Gastric Bypass is slightly longer than in a conventional bypass to prevent bile from flowing back into the esophagus. The rest of the stomach just stays put and thus is not removed. Because part of the stomach is turned off, less hunger hormone is produced. So you can eat less, while still being less hungry. Weight loss from a Mini Gastric Bypass is the same as from a classic Gastric Bypass.
How it works:
The small intestine is connected to the reduced stomach. Even with this detour, the food does not come into contact with the digestive juices until later. In this way, 150-200 cm of intestine is skipped. But the small intestine is not cut. Because of the different route of food, the gut produces hormones that have a beneficial effect on feelings of hunger and satiety (how full you are). That helps to lose weight.
We check everything one more time before the operation is finished. When you wake up we have already closed all the wounds. So from the operation itself you don’t notice anything at all.
