Mini Gastric Bypass (bypass surgery)
The Mini Gastric Bypass is a somewhat newer variant of a classic Gastric Bypass. This weightloss procedure is also called a One Anastomosis Gastric Bypass (OAGB = gastric bypass with one connection. The gastric reservoir in a Mini Gastric Bypass is slightly longer than in a classic bypass to prevent bile from flowing back into the esophagus. The rest of the stomach remains in place and is therefore not removed. Because part of the stomach is shut down, less hunger hormone is produced. So you can eat less, while still feeling less hungry. The weight loss of a Mini Gastric Bypass is the same as a classic Gastric Bypass.

How does it work?
The small intestine is connected to the reduced stomach. With this diversion, the food comes into contact with the digestive juices later. In this way, 150-200 cm of intestine is skipped. But the small intestine is not cut. Due to the other route of the food, the intestine produces hormones that have a beneficial effect on the feeling of hunger and satiety (how full you are). That helps to lose weight.
We'll check everything again before the operation is over. When you wake up we have already closed all the wounds. You will not notice anything about the operation itself
Difference with a Gastric Sleeve
The surgery also involves the small intestine
Nothing is removed, everything remains in place
Slightly better weight loss in the long run
Better results in people who have diabetes
Less trouble with heartburn (reflux) than a gastric sleeve
Slightly more shortages of vitamins and minerals
Difference with the Gastric Bypass
A mini gastric bypass has not been around that long. The long-term results are less known than with a classic gastric bypass
A mini gastric bypass has a slightly higher risk of acid / reflux problems and a stomach ulcer
The mini gastric bypass is technically slightly easier, because one less connection is made.
